Plan of Work (February- July 2006)

  • Completion of Smoke less stoves in Hegdehalli
  • Implementation of work of mini grants on aquaculture, sericulture and women empowerment.
  • Installation and promotion drip irrigation for flower as well as mulberry crops.
  • Introduction of Aerobic paddy
  • Water, soil and compost analyses for physical and chemical properties and compared with checks
  • Promotion of vermicomposting, dry land horticulture, agro forestry, apiculture
  • Continued trials of alternative crops on other test plots in both villages
  • White paper writing jointly by ISU and UAS faculty on sustainable agricultural interventions and developing an appropriate model of development, which help in replication.
  • Technical paper on sustainable interventions
  • Release of Extension folders for successful interventions

 

Plan of work (October 2005 - January 2006)

  • Completion of installation of biogas digesters
  • Implementation of work through three mini-grants: aquaculture, sericulture and value-added food processing
  • Installation of additional drip irrigation
  • Assistance to other farmers interested in composting and vermiculture systems
  • Continued trials of alternative crops on other test plots in both villages

 

Plan of work (April - September, 2005)

(a) Water Management

  • Improvements of efficiency of existing drip irrigation through some minor interventions like emitters, water and electrical meters.
  • Providing liquid fertilizers along with fertigation tank in both villages having drip irrigation and compare drip with fertigation and with out fertigation in one of the selected plots of the farmer.
  • Locating a demonstration plot for grapes and mulberry in both the villages under drip and non-drip category.
  • Organizing the training program on biogas and drip irrigation within this month in Venkatahalli and Hegdehalli.
  • Digging recharges pits around bore-wells
  • Water sample analysis
  • Soil sample analysis

(b) Marketing / Policy Interventions

  • Identification of alternative marketing channels for farmers to market their produce so as to increase the producer’s share in consumer’s rupee and realize higher returns for their produce
  • Linking of farmers produce to Modern Auction Markets
  • Starting of Milk Co-operative Society in consultation as decided by the farmers of Venkatahalli

(c) Sustainable Agriculture Interventions

  • Training programs on advanced composting methods, water-harvesting structures, mulching and soil and water conservation techniques
  • Baby corn demonstration plots to illustrate the synergies (integrating farming system approach) like crop production + milk production through better utilization of baby corn as fodder + gobar gas production through dung + manure for crops
  • Vermicomposting

(d) Health and Nutrition

  • Training on home level processing of fruits and vegetables into jams, jellies, sauce and pickles
  • Promotion of kitchen gardens for better nutrition of households to be implemented in cooperation with Mahila mandal, SHG, Anganawadi and schools in the locale
  • Demonstration cum training program on preparation of bakery products
